I thought the extra "n" actually did serve for pronunciation. Without it I'd probably pronounce it "Klee-MAN".

Yeah, basically. But you can't tell that difference IRL. There could be an argument for both being correct, with the two n's (if you say it verbally). I only get so snarky on the spelling is because my Dad was the same. He's been telling people all his life how to spell his name, but eventually he "just gave up." Well, I'm not giving up.
