This is not a solution - people should be able to change their hardware/play on different hardware if they desire, without hassle.

I maintain that, for the average user, IP checking is sufficient, as effectively all home networks use NAT and hence the same outbound IP. If a person wishes to pay for 2 seperate accounts on 2 seperate PCs (or a virtual machine or something) then there really is no way of determining this from a server perspective (well, apart from patterns that would indicate collusion, which doesn't necessarily imply that there is one user behind both accounts), and thusly cannot be detected.

888 needs to implement IP checking at least - blacklisting popular tunneling services and proxies is also viable but there will be always those that slip through the cracks, this is a risk you take by playing online, unfortunately.

IP filtering is only an answer if you can determine the individual machine's IP in a network. Otherwise you'll just pick up the external IP.

People have wireless & standard net access, plus multiple machines. So even if you could get an external IP/mac address past a firewall then it wouldn't prove that it was the same person. It might simply be two different players sharing a net connection. Even recording or associating a mac address to one online account wouldn't work either. My laptops are poker sluts and MANY people have played on them.

I would suggest the best way to ensure online 888pl players have only one account is to tie the online account to a live account, i.e. their member number.

For remote online players who are unable to attend live venues to prove their identity, simple stat decs or the 100 point ID system would soon sort them out.

It really depends on how big an issue it is.

This is true, and should still be banned. It's too easy to collude otherwise. If two people wish to play on the same connection, they should play different tournaments/tables to prevent this. I know for a fact this is how other sites handle this, and it seems the fairest way.

As much as I hate it, it probably should be :

1 internet connection = 1 player

Huge risks are already taken with online poker. The sites don't know anything at all about what you're doing apart from your screen name and some bets. Having two people on the same connection? If I was a poker site, I wouldn't have it.

What, I can't play poker on the same site as my house mate?

That won't go down particularly well with a large section of their demographic.

888 is like the only site i know that allows this, except for play money games (and you can play heads up against someone else on the same net connection)

nup. Played same time as housemate several times on tilt.

Maybe it is more specific and you can't play in same tournament or on same table - I can't recall for sure if we've played in same tournament or not.
