Organising a sweat session, need some tips

Postby AceLosesKing » Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:59 pm

Any advice from anyone that's ever taken part in a sweat session before? What program is best to use to chat (Skype, teamviewer, etc)? Any quick note-taking tips?

i am happy to help because i want do to the same thing some time in the future.

maybe using a program to make a vid of your screen at the time is the best way to go. then either record a voice over, or just write comments with timestamps next to them corresponding to different bits of your vid. then someone (like me) could view it, and then give comments. then i could make a vid and you could do the same for me.

thats prolly the easiest way. doing it live wouldn't allow you to concentrate as much as you should.

This sounds infinitely better, cheers. Might try something like this.

Not entirely sure what exactly you mean by a sweat session in this context (honestly, poker terminology annoys me sometimes - this sounds like something you'd do in a gym, not in front of your computer), however there is software called "procaster" that allows real time viewing of a desktop with chat - is this the sort of application you meant? If you're looking for something that isn't real time, there are a number of desktop recording apps out there, then it'd simply be a case of using some video editing software and chopping it up as appropriate. If you elaborate on exactly what it is you're doing, I may be able to suggest some other useful applications too.

sweat session is basically having your poker buddies / coaches etc review your play.

this could be done either live (i.e watching over your shoulder) or via live chat, or offline

I see. So we're talking potential hours of footage? Because that seems inconvinient to stream (assuming it's pre-recorded) to say the least.

Potentially, yeah. Depends how I'm running in the session/what I organise with my friend (sweator? :D)

we can always burn to dvds for each other.

i really like the idea. its even better than posting single hands, because you get to see what people's general lines are in certain situations a lot clearer.

creating sort of a study group in this regard would be great i think. get 4 or 5 of us, then once a week we all get to analyse 1 player's footage, critique his game etc. then it moved onto the next player.

maybe even in the future hire garth for some coaching
