Internet Help

Postby bennymacca » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:23 am

think my modem is screwed.

last night, halfway during poker mind you, i lost internet connection. i can connect to the router, but the little "PPP" light is off. i originally think it's adam internet's problem, and get pissed becuase its a full night without poker.

this morning, i turn the computer on, and same problem. i have power cycled the modem about a million times. literally like every half an hour since it stopped working. now i am starting to think its my problem, adam are never out for more than an hour or so.

check adam internet site when i get to work, and it doesnt' say there were any outages.

any ideas? modem screwed?

You didn't change any router passwords or Adam passwords by chance, did you?

Had a mate who had the same kind of issue. Turns out his next door neighbour got internet installed and the techs cut off his internet. Telstra are still yet to re-connect my mate who was with Adam. The next door neighbour connected via Bogpond.

Ring Adam and get them to do a line test.

So your ADSL light is on, but not the PPP light?

I had the same problem with my net a few months ago. When you ring them they make you do silly things like check the power is connected, check the phone thingy is connected into the wall socket, remove and reinsert the phone thingy into the wall socket.

In the end they had to send someone out to fix a problem with the actual line (no cost to me). Never told me what the problem was but it took them two weeks to come out to my area - needless to say I was pretty pissed. I found myself...reading books and drinking glasses of wine...really ghey.

yep ADSL light is still on.

this made me think it was a modem problem, because if there was a disconnection, this light would be flashing i would think.

I know you said you've checked your configuration, but it sounds to me like the modem has been reset, and the configuration details aren't correct.

i hard reset and re-entered the configuration details as well.

ill quadruple check when i get home.

but hence why i think its actually a problem with the modem. because it was working, and halfway during poker, it just decided to stop working.

Yeah it could be something as simple as the encapsulation being wrong, or some such.
