this is completely fine, but you can't really argue against other people saying that they dont believe, because they can use the same logic. so the argument just becomes circular.

And there's nothing wrong with being circular. What have you got against circles anyway? Circles are awesome. Circles are fundamental to the existence of life as we know it. Don't diss circles!!! :|

Of course this is the case. But it's more "I believe in God because I have to". And of course the argument becomes circular. And of course they will say they don't believe in God because they can. And that's all well and good too. :)

But there is no other possible reason for belief than "because". And there is no other possible reason for non-belief than "because". Even if you want to name your non-belief reason as "science" it's still no better than "just because". Because science says nothing about the non-existence of God.

So yes, it's circular. But it's always nice to see what other people think and why. I'm just trying to show people that it is possible to be a believer without being a religious freak. Often, this obvious fact is missed.

bennymacca wrote:you cannot argue for or against here really, because there is no evidence for or against either argument really. how did you come up with an answer of 80/20?

Pulled it straight outta my arse. 8-) Just saying that for me to accept the universe as being the way it is without being created is not going to happen because the odds of it really aren't there in my opinion. And that's all it is, an opinion. But I still see it as a possibility, because anything is possible and I don't know everything. Hence the 20%.

There you go, thinking scientifically again. You see a number and have to understand where it comes from. You need liberation from the restriction of scientific thought. No good will come of it, trust me!!

And never trust anyone that says "trust me".

yep, when you try and quantify something, then it becomes scientific. :D

when you say i need liberation from scientific thought, i could say that your thoughts need some sort of grounding in rational thinking :D

I'm afraid non-scientific does not equal non-rational.

Everything I've said has been perfectly rational and logical. :geek:

im sorry to paraphrase you, but saying "i believe in this because i can, even though there is no proof, or even if there was scientific proof, the science is wrong" isn't rational really.

we are kinda going around in circles here. i think the discussion has run its course.

old man Swanky, new question!

There you go, hatin on circles again.

It's not irrational to not require proof.

It's not irrational to not require scientific proof.

You only believe these things are a requirement of ration thinking because your focus is too narrow. ;)

The rational approach I have clearly adopted is to consider as many possibilities as I can think of and slowly eliminate all the ones that I consider to be least likely until I'm left with only one. God did it.

Nothing irrational about it.

old man Swanky, I can't promise to participate in the next one! It might not be my sort of thing.
