There is something that has always mystified in this season of NPL - that is people that keep both of their flight cards at the start of the tournament, instead of cashing one of them in.
I dont see the logic of this for a number of reasons
1. If you get into a pot when u have the nuts, u dont have enough chips to get some value. All in with 2K into a pot can potentially see you to at least the second break, but with only 1K, ur possible pot winnings are much less.
2. If someone is trying to push you off the pot with middle pair. a big raise will make him fold, but since u only have 800 instead of 1800, u cant make that play.
3. you are basically saving yourself in case you get knocked out of the tournament not once, but twice!!! If you are worried about going out TWICE BEFORE THE FIRST BREAK then you aren't playing very good poker.
what are peoples thoughts on this?

Re: Why do people keep 2 flight cards?
I agree with you Ben, a couple of weeks ago i noticed how a few players were not cashing in any of thier cards befor the break so i gave it a try at the Kingsford, 2nd hand i made quad 2s, i easily got all my money in the pot and and raised by 2 opponents i made 3000 from the main pot but if i had of cashed my card i could have easily had 6000 from both pots.
I think some players don't cash their cards before the break because they're likely to go all in pre flop a lot with hands like A,10 K,Q and want their cards to fall back on when they get beat.

Re: Why do people keep 2 flight cards?
My friends do it and they say its so they can go all in (a maximum of) 3 times before the break. If they need to, that is. Yeah, if you've got more cards you can win more money, but that doesn't bother some people.
Personally, I use one straight away then save my second until the first break, unless I go under 600.

it kinda avoids being donked and then being shortstacked with no backup.
you start with 2k, donk starts with 2k
you flop 2 pair, donk has runner runner flush draw
donk gets lucky and you are broke... now you cash in a card and only have 1k.

I personaly do what the majority on the tables does, if no one redeems, I will not, if all redeem I will. Id rather start as close to equal as possible with my fellow players, If everyone but one person on the table redeems, then that player will be at a great dis-advantage enless he can play the short stack well, If only 1 person redeems, he most likely will be commiting 1000 chips to any pot, as people are most aggressive on the short stack.
Cheers

Re: Why do people keep 2 flight cards?
I keep both cards because it helps me to play tight poker. This has helped me achieve two things:
* Points in 17 of the 19 games I have played
* no wins in season 3
I think its each to their own. Obviously the lack of early chips have restricted me from building a big chip stack, but it has also stopped me from wasting them on iffy bets.

nice play if you can achieve it m8.
I'm one for cashing 1st card gives me chips to play with , meeting those that also cash. If playing well. 2nd card may not be needed after 1st break.
My Routine is to cash 2nd card at or on 1st break gives me comfortable time to fill it .. and then I have chips to play those that get chips in the draw and met the high chip holders,
hausler's idea of no cards makes you play tight is also part my artillery as more times I'm short stacked than being chip high and I see many more blow their high chip holdings, rather than being able to grow from short stack positions.

Well benny the cunt, I hold both mine as a safety net against the Punter who wants to go allin on crap and then does the proverbial donk on the turn or river.
I was a very tight player and I'm probably still a little that way. However, Dakota told me that I needed to change my style as people knew this. So, when I raised they would either fold or re-raise their bet to try and get me out of the hand.
So, I'm really trying to change my style. Unfortunately it's costing me a whole lot points this season compared to last season. I also like to trap play or allow the pot to increase with more punters. Unfortunately this is not good as it allows more people to knock me out so I'm slowly dropping the slow play. LOL
Then, I'll be the one to go allin and take the pot before the turn or river card. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way and you can get busted. WHOOOHOOOO!!!!
See my bad beat story and you'll know what I mean.
Now if I get busted I only cash in one of my Flight Cards and continue to play the same as b4 and get some chips back and rebuild my stack. Hopefully, I don't go on tilt and blow my chips because I'm still stewing over the bad beat hand.
Anyway, I must be doing something right as I'm in the 46% bracket.
I think it's up to the individual. Some Punters like to have the $2,000 up front so they can go Allin and bully their opposition into folding.
In my case if I have the cards they're gonna get called every time. If there are others calling the All Inner and my hand is mediocre I'll fold and root for the caller coz they'd have to have some sort of a hand to call them, LOL.
That's another reason why I'm not a great lover of punters being able to rejoin via Flight Cards or Bad beat table. I say if they want to over bet their hand and get busted out, leave them out.
But again that's my opinion. However if I get back in via either method I'll take it as it's part of the game. Sounds like I have double standards and maybe I do, but, thems the rules, LOL.
Well benny the cunt, that's my reason for playing with just one flight card. And hopefully when I play a real game and the opening stacks are even my new tightish loose play will keep me going till the final table.
But I have to tell you. I'm finding it hard to play crap cards and bet them like they're pocket aces coz I get done on them too, LOL
