Poker Study Group

Postby bennymacca » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:49 pm

in general, i dont think there is enough poker discussion on this forum, and that the poker chat on this forum has stagnated a bit.

there are a few "have i played this ok" type threads, but not enough on theory in general. some of the newer members of the forum have recently got involved posting hands, and well done to these people, but i think this can be expanded.

so i am proposing that anyone who is interested join a poker study group. first, we would brainstorm areas where we think we need improvement on. this could be simple things that you might need a refresher on, or more complex things. the point is to be inclusive, especially to newer poker players.

each week, someone within the group is tasked with researching an area, and reporting back to the group. this research can come from anywhere, including your own thoughts on the matter. this can include ajg's idea of posting articles, but i think it is more engaging than just posting an article on the subject - include your thoughts about a particular article. i would think maybe an hour of your time to research in that week would be appropriate.

then for that week, there is an open discussion on the subject, with the emphasis on CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts and asking for other people's opinions. then onto the next topic the next week.

the key thing is that you dont have to be any good at poker to join. lets face it, none of us are that good on this forum. personally, i think my own game has gone backwards recently, and getting back to the basics and discussion would be great for me.

would people be up for this? i am particularly keen on hearing what the less regular posters think.

Yeah I wouldn't mind being in a study group, anything that would help my game can't be a bad thing.

Good 1 benny the cunt

I would love to learn more about the game. I have been in the process of solidifying my game over the past few weeks and I like the idea of different opinions brought forward.
