No. Poker is awesome.

Don't let a few stupid hands/donkeys/bad plays ruin your love for this beautiful game.

Agreed

Everyone suffers a bad run at some stage, maybe take a break for a couple weeks if it's frustrating you that much?
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Think you have answered your own question already.

Yes.

Every player either goes busto, or has a downswing.

What makes a player great is the ability to handle those downswings. Some instances playing at a lower level.
Reviewing your play and going yes everytime that is how i would play that hand in that situation.

Ride with it, don't change your style of play. Everything turns around eventually.

If worse comes to worse, Make a prayer to the poker gods. Usually helps me. And if you still feel like the poker gods are crapping on you. Go watch Jamie Gold Luckbox the 2006 WSOP Main Event. And realise all they have to do is smile on you oneday.

Brett.

One of the hardest part of poker is dealing with the negative swings.
I was playing extremely well in Melbourne before moving over to SA. I move over here and I hit the worst patch of my life, nobody rolled like I did. Bad beat after bad beat, crucial hands been destroyed by one or two outers, to be quite honest I am still rolling pretty bad, had a tournament recently where I was an 80% favourite or greater only to be smashed on the turn or river again and again, four hands in a row, a total of seven hands.
Poker is always about the psychology of the game and your own psyche, how you stand up to these beats and bad plays is entirely up to you. Me, I get up from the ground, dust myself out, wipe the blood from my mouth and shake my opponents hand, smile and say "Nice hand".
Bad luck is apart of the game, noone really remembers when they had a good run of luck and were spiking the rivers. But I like to think to myself: "If my opponent had showed me his hand every time I pushed all in or he pushed all in, would I want the call?" If the answer is yes every time then I am happy. It means I got the money in with the best hand and I left the rest up to luck. The majority of the time that is all you can do.
I recently went back to Melbourne, I played in a regular tournament that I used to play in on a Sunday. There was 168 runners, I got crippled three times, only to pull it together each time and I eventually went on to win the tourney after 7 hours. I like to think that if it wasn't for the bad time I had been through that I would not have had the mental capacity to not be rattled when I was crippled each time and to keep my head. I also think that it was karma and I was due for a turn around, which happened.
Poker is always a test, it will test every facet of you character and psyche, and sometimes you will be found wanting. How you handle these situations is also another test. Take a break, sit down somewhere go for a walk, clear your head, then get back on the horse and continue playing.
There are many reasons to love and hate poker, I find the majority of the reasons to hate it are also why I love the game.

Its a Jekyl and Hyde thing.

The impersonator that we hired at the Teams event was just some no name from Melbourne.

But shhh.....

I am the good one :-).

I think your right there Brett. I just read a Post from the "REAL" Garth and it made good reading.

Your right about that "impersonator" he was a real A'hole wasn't he? :o He's probably nothing like the real Garth you know, or is he?

He's definately, nothing like the guy who knocks off work around 5.30pm and gets to go out and socialise with his mates at one of the pubs or clubs that has NPL Poker.

I'm sure when you guys read your job descriptions it never included "stress" - "long hours" and solving "unforeseen problems" any time day or night by not only your bosses but all of us Punters.

Most times the reward is someone just saying it was a good venue or hey, I had a great nite that makes it worth while.

And for those who think I'm doing a massive suck up your wrong. Most punters out there wouldn't understand nor do they care what sort of pressure these guys are under.

And lets not forget the TD's and their TDA's. If it wasn't for them we would be still sitting at home watching the telly.

So, to all NPL staff and the Punters out there, "THANK YOU"
