I might have asked this before, but i wonder if its possible for 888 to put together an 888pl only ring game/s? If people know they are going to play against fellow 888pl'ers all the time, it might increase cash game traffic on their site???
i dont mind the idea
the other option could be to play the 888pl SNGs, and have a "SNG madness" where people over a 24 hour period try and make the most cash/points/whatever.

Re: The 24h Cash Game Idea
yeah, could be a way of involving 888, and it their setup wouldn't have to change at all.
about the only thing that would need to happen would be a system for near-live (i.e every hour/half hour) updates to the leaderboard, posted on the forum or something, so people can see how they are going.

Re: The 24h Cash Game Idea
Let's set a date and start time. Obviously will have to be over a weekend. Why don't we make it $10 entry starting Saturday 12PM ending Sunday 12PM. Entry fees will be split into two prize pools. One is for total points over period with the following point system 1st - 6pts 2nd - 5pts etc. Second for best average points given a minimum threshold of 10/20 games. So say we get 50 players, $500 total prizepool, $250 for most points and $250 for best average.

Re: The 24h Cash Game Idea
I think the online idea will have to be some other time trishan. Let's concentrate in the live one first
I was talking to Aaron and gaz today, and my idea was if we are playing 50nl say, then there is a $10 sit down fee. This generates a prize pool which is used to reward the highest earner for the 24hr, or maybe for both the highest earner and the person that logs the most hours
We all agreed tha tthe tough time would be 4am when some people have lost a few buyins and left, and it's potentially just regs against each other - there
Must be incentives for people to keep playing throughout the 24hr and not just give up after 12
The prize for highest earner would generate some crazy action really late when 2 or 3 are really deep and winning a good pot from the other players might be worth a few hundred extra to them in bonus cash

This.
We are going to need to stagger the entrants, I can see everyone being gung ho for the idea when we start at 8pm, but by 4am it will only be the long term players left (and so far only Stevo and myself are down for the full 24hrs).
How do you define biggest winner? If someone plays for 2hrs, wins 5 BI's and leaves vs someone who plays the entire 24hrs and wins 4BI... who did better? There's going to need to be a cap on that, say minimum 5h (or 10h, whatever) played. And how about paying for entrants, I won't want to pay $10 to the biggest winner if I'm only going to be playing for 6h. I'm still tossing up whether this will be a compulsory fee, as I don't like the idea of lumping that on players - but benny the cunt is right, something like this is needed for motivation.
I really need to find out beforehand a rough estimate of how long someone wants to play for. If you only want to come down for a few hours, that is completely fine, but notice is going to be needed. Because unfortunately, I'm going to have to stagger the entrants out. I've thought about it, there is simply no other way to have a table going for 24hrs straight. Here's what I've come up with so far. I'm thinking of having 5h blocks (minus the last 4h) and players can come in then. If we have enough players when they wanna sit down, that's fine, we'll make room or get another table going (I'm working on borrowing tables from friends).
8pm-1am
1am-6am
6am-11am
11am-4pm
4pm-8pm
I'm going to be setting up a TV/Xbox (don't know if I can get a working aerial for the TV out there in time) and side games (thirteen, board games, online poker) for anyone that wants a break. There will be couches, beanbags etc for resting. Deciding between a BBQ/provided food from Mother/pizza for food. Breaks will be in effect of course, probably 30m every 6h, and each player has 2 10m breaks that can be nominated.
Stevo has talked about having his gf work as a dealer all night - she would also be in charge of the money (ie lockbox) and dealing of the chips/change. She would have to be paid of course, I don't know how serious of an idea that is atm but its food for thought (as is a lot of this post, really). My house will be locked up at all times and entry will only be given for use of the toilet (unless there's an emergency obv), I don't want people I don't 100% trust walking around in there.
Thoughts?

Re: The 24h Cash Game Idea
some jot points...
stagger entry points..
say 3-00pm start five hour blocks entry to a block set at $ 5-00/ eack block.
3-00pm/8pm/ 1am/6am 11am 3 pm finish.
reentries permitted to each block @ $5 this builds the prize pool.
Winner of prize for longest marathoner with most chips..
Winner of prize pool needs a minimum of 2/3 full blocks of play breaks say 10/15mins per block of play
or a variant of this base idea
ps $5 = 10,000 chips ??
$5 could also = a $5food /cost bounty and/or $ 5 per drink bounty.

Re: The 24h Cash Game Idea
firstly, i should read any posts i make via iphone, there is some horrible typos in my post above
i dont really see this as a huge problem, so long as you get enough entrants to start.
the idea would be that most people would try to go for 24hr, with a few coming and going.
so if it means that you start with 2-3 tables worth of people, but at 4am there are only 5 players left, then so be it.
you say you want to stagger entrants, but this wont really solve the above problem - noone is going to START playing at 4am.
so i think the answer is to have enough players start the game - ideally at least 20, that there will still be some around in the wee hours.
then hopefully the game might fill back up later as more people come
i reckon it would be good to have two prizes - one for most amount of hours logged, one for most money won. a qualifying period of 6 hours or something would be good.
thinking about it, i reckon the best way to take a fee for prizes etc would be to do it as a time charge similar to how some casinos do it. for those that don't know, basically at the start of every hour, you give the dealer $x. if you come in at half past the hour, then you pay accordingly. something like $1 per hour would be good i reckon.
this is a good idea.
i reckon half hour break at meal times, and maybe 1 or 2 10 min breaks per 5 hour block would be a good idea.
basically a sign-in sheet where people log their times would be the best method.
this is a great idea - having someone act as a coordinator for the night, whether or not she deals would be awesome.
i would most definitely pay for someone to deal and organise. this could be incorporated into the time charge for the prize money as well.
i think you should most definitely lock the money away safely.
the best way to do this would probably be to get people to pre-buy some buyins, and lock all the money away.
i.e if i rocked up, i could give you $150, then you could lock it away. this gives me 3 buyins should i need them.
obviously you dont have to do this, but i think keeping the amount of money laying around to the absolute minimum would be the best idea.
bruce got in before me, but it seems like we are on the same wavelength with the time charge part.
dont really like this bit though - keep it as a pure cash game i reckon.

Winrate award?
Min 5 hour block to be completed and the player with the greatest amount of $/hour takes the award.
I would also be very careful about phrasings you use when writing on this forum guys.
You cannot rake the prize pool and you cannot make any fee that does not go towards the prize pool a compulsory fee. I know it's a private residence but just be careful.
