I find it frustrating that there are repeat offenders, and there's one I had a run-in with a week or so ago.
I'm always friendly and respectful, online and in-venue, and can't handle being 'bullied' for no reason, other than the other player seems to get a kick out of it.
This particular player took offense to an all-in move that I made, and kept going until I couldn't ignore it anymore and tried to politely tell them to not speak to me in that way. Online is definately worse, but in-venue can be just as bad.

Re: 888pl and online foreign languages
I think we have all had incidents where we have been at the end of a tirade from a disgruntled player. With some of these players they just need to vent after a bad loss and then they move on. With others though they continue well after the hand and some of the comments can be quite hurtful especially if you are not used to dealing with these type of people. I have mentioned before that having come from a back ground of dispute resolution I am usually able to deal with it fine. But not everyone can. Sure if you stick up for the person you risk that the abuse is shifted to you but if enough people stand up and say enough it enough then you will usually find that the offenders usually will stop. By remaining silent you are sending a message to the offenders that you have no problem with what they are doing and if they believe they are supported it gives them more strength to continue. It also sends a message to the victim that they are alone and can make the comments hurt more.
I have made the comment on the table to more than one player that if they cannot deal with losses then they will never become a good player. I strongly believe that one of the qualities of a truly great player is not only how they deal with wins but how they deal with losses also. The character of a person in general comes out when we see injustice and refuse to sit back and let it occur. As a group I think it is time to stand up against bullies and let them know that we will tolerate there behavior no more. It does not need to come in the form of abusing the player back but in strong words that let them know that we find there behavior deplorable.
In regards to name and shame while the player may not read the forum many others do and word of mouth is a very strong tool. We need to make these people accountable for there actions and by naming them we go a long way towards this.

Re: 888pl and online foreign languages
On the flip side, in-venue last week there was a young woman at my table who took everything that was said to her (and sometimes not to her) so personally she ended up abusing us thinking we were abusing her!
She openly stated she had never played before, and the only help we gave her was like, blind amounts, please dont act out of turn, bet/raise amounts etc... Nothing abusive... But a few of us did get a tad snippy after the 4th time of asking her to keep her chips on the table and not in her lap (again not abusive, just like "Hey, cmon, this is 4 times now, do it again and I'll call over the TD". We even tried to explain why, then she got upset accusing us of saying she was cheating! OMG! "No, but some players have and will, thats why rules say chips on the table"
Then one player laughed (just in general, not at her) when she called large bets all the way to the river with J high and won the pot, and that really started her off! Wow she was unbeleivable, her boyfriend was seated between me and her and jeez I felt sorry for him... Once I leant to say something private and not even poker related to a friend and she absolutely lost it at me accusing me of saying sexually harassing things even, claiming she heard exactly what i said! LOL, yeah sexual harassment is always a good idea with your boyfriend sitting inbetween us isn't it!
Even if someone pointed out how much it was on her to call a raise she would pipe up with "Are you trying to tell me how to play!" or something...
Was pretty funny actually for a while, but then it just interrupted the play so much that she did end up annoying other players, and I am a bit surprised she didnt cop a few comments then, probably because she only lasted about 1/2 way from 1st to 2nd break (thankfully)
Edit: I also look upon any abuse or negativity at the tables as disrespect for the game itself. I think it was in Doyle Brunson's book I first read/heard about showing respect for the game and this includes respecting those who play, and it made alot of sense to me (he did go into it abit more).

Re: 888pl and online foreign languages
why didn't you say something to the TD?
but yeah, in general i hate the people that are clearly knew, but take offence when you tell them the rules.
an funny one i had the other night - a guy kept mucking out of turn, we told him like 4 times.
he said something along the lines of, yeah, i always muck out of turn.
i said dont worry, we were all beginners once,
he replied oh, im not a beginner....
WELL LEARN TO PLAY BY THE BLOODY RULES THEN!!!!!!

(cant you tell that etiquette is one of my pet peeves, especially when people say "its free poker," like that somehow gives them the right to break the rules)

Thank you for hijacking a perfectly reasonable thread about a very serious topic.
Now move on and go discuss this subject matter somewhere else.

Re: 888pl and online foreign languages
No hikack? Still posting about abuse, just not about ppl abusing others regarding their play...
Granted she didnt get wild enough to get booted, but she certainly got Caleb's attention near the end, as well as the rest of the room...
ANY abuse is bad for the game at hand, the game in general, the league, and the person receiving it, regardless of why its given- although abuse for trying to help and explaining the rules is easier to shrug off I suppose.
But abuse can occur for any number of reasons, maybe even no reason sometimes.
Yes I am with you benny the cunt, people who continually flaunt the rules, especially when they say they arent new to the game is annoying, and the old "Chill its only free poker"
Ask them if they bend the rules on the golf course (or any free sport) next time
Etiquette is also part of respect for the game and hence those playing it.
Garth, there are plenty out there who will abuse people for simply asking they play by the rules. This also is serious, although probably not as prevelant as abuse regarding actual play. I came close to a beating at the Flagstaff late game a while back, not to mention an earful of pretty serious abuse at the table, from 2 very drunk mates (not mine obv) who continually needed to be reminded about simple rules. 1 even frequently mucked face up! When I busted one of them calling a river push with a hand that was really only a bluff catcher, they friggin lost it! but it was a definite read on his shove and how he had been eyeballing me most of the night that told me to call...
I dont go there anymore...
Maybe the one and only downside to pub poker is alcohol can fuel this to even greater heights.

Garth wasn't debating the validity of your point. In fact i agree with you. But the thread was about foreign languages and online abuse. So if you wanted to talk about etiquetette or precious players, start another thread.

Re: 888pl and online foreign languages
Yeah I hoped that was the case, but maybe he thought I (or benny the cunt) was getting too far of the main abuse point, but I didnt want to go ahead and point out it was he who actually introduced this topic (abuse).
I had typed "As this thread is about foreign languages isnt the entire abuse discussion a hijack?" then remembered it was Garth who first introduced the abuse issue in this thread, and thought it better not to post something that can be so easily taken the wrong way by the Manager! so I deleted before hitting submit. I didnt think it was originally about abuse at all...
Am hoping he wont think Im being a smart-ass now
