Just because you've read books and don't go on tilt does not make you a good poker player. It might make you better than the average pub player.
It all comes down to how you apply that learning (if you understand it) in different situations.
I've read a lot of books, possibly more than Garth, but I am no where in the same league as him. I'm sure a lot of other people here would agree with me.
Yep. Definitely. I have read plenty of books, watched videos, visited forums, played a lot but I am nowhere as good as Garth and few of the forum regs. The thing about poker is you really need to be able to constantly learn. If you think you know all there is to know about poker, then you don't know poker. Even Garth who has some solid results behinds him will accept that he can still improve a great deal.

Great post Des, intelligent input.
If you have read (and understood) a lot of books on poker, made nearly 5000 contributions to a poker forum and are still way behind the level of Garth - it might be time to give the game away mate.
If the above comment is seen as disrespectful - let the record reflect that I give what I get.
May all your pain be champagne!

I take it as good as I give it. (cue mum jokes)
Reading poker books does not make you be a good poker player. That's all I'm saying.
At least I'm realistic as to where my abilities are at.

You should just leave it for others to decide if you are a good poker or not, not for you to tell everybody.
Riskers gamble, experts calculate.

LOL, because thats all I have been doing in this thread - telling everyone how good I am.
I present a different point of view and get shouted down.
But thanks for supporting my theory that Garth's poll would be skewed by people such as yourself and Des who clearly skim over my contributions and just go with the gospel!
With the introduction of Mum jokes I think I will limit my input here - unless something of merit is posted.
Ciao for Now

Fine... if we are so biased post the same question on PNW. Check out their replies.
I know you post there. Pretty interesting seeing as you are so "learned" about poker then I see what questions you ask.

Re: Misclick leads to tough descison.....
This discussion was never meant to degenerate into this.
I appreciate the comments and perspective from both Jo and Glenn, and at no time should it have been bought down to a personal level or evolved into an insult slinging match.
To each their own and as stated before, there are many ways to play a hand and I honesty believe their is some misinterpretation going on. The thread in my mind evolved from hand discussion to general strat/skill discussion. It's ok to disagree with each other and we can do so in a cordial manner.
At not time did I ever think I was disrespecting anyone and I am terribly sorry if it is perceived that I was.
I am now locking this thread before this thread turns from good to bad.
Jo and Glenn, your thoughts, comments, debates are always welcome here; I will defend my comments and thoughts to the death, and you have every right to do the same. My intentions were always an good natured and I meant no ill will or disrespect.
I look forward to the next "discussion".
