turned the full house?

i dont mind the overbet in general - you met as much as you think you can get value from.

obviously you want a call here, so you just gotta decide how much will the other person call.

in small pots like this though, an overbet is nearly always slow played strong hand.

fwiw i think this play works a lot more often when it is 3bet pre or something, and there is significant action on previous streets

Plays like this always polarize a villains range, meaning they are usually on a bluff, or want to make a huge hand look like a bluff. As mentioned, history/reads are pretty important here. People will overbet the river with a medium strength hand like top pair weak kicker almost never. you are turning your hand into a bluff if that is the case.

If so, why would the country of origin matter?

Apparently if you hop from country to country there is a different style of play... one thing to remember on your next around the world poker trip.

Hey Dave, thanks for the answer.
I didn't know that.
I guess it stands to reason doesn't it, because of each culture being so very different.
Anyway.. Thanks heaps.. I appreciate your answer. :o)

If they are actually going to the effort of typing in a number over the size of the pot that isn't their whole stack, I read it as strength and would fold a so-so hand.

Too many "internet pros" see too many real pros overbet the pot on TV and think it's the in thing.

They don't realise you need a table image and history with the villains in order to sell it.

Live would depend on the read. Online I would say strength 90% of the time and fold.

Massive generalization I know but it's how I roll.

Generally speaking:

Europeans are aggressive.
Nordic players are insanely aggressive.
Canadians are tighter than usual.
South Americans (Brazilians) love any Ace.
Germans make me want to kill something.
Americans love themselves and abuse anyone who beat their awesome play.
And the french, ooo lala the French, don't even get me started.

Country of origin always reminds me of this line of thought:

Number of times I've done that, and then seen they're French, German or something like that and didn't care.
