Trishan, it is mentioned on just about every "Is it a +EV push with handX at YBBs" article i have ever read, that just because it is +EV doesn't imply max EV... Take the extreme case of having AA... it always a +EV shove, but clearly we can maximise our avg EV by NOT open shoving it.
a few thoughts...
a) I am almost certain you can get rid of the +/- 0.5bb terms if we take X to be stack BEFORE posting. (also why not lable it S?) And by including them implies X is stack size AFTER posting the blinds, which I dont think you mentioned ?
b) Do those stats really give us enough info to estimate villains SS shove calling range?
- Are they 6 or 9 handed stats? over how many hands?
- What stack sizes are those stats from? or range of stack sizes? I would guess anything upto 100BB? so that info isnt too useful in determining a preflop HU call range at 16BBs??? - and herein lies the difficulty of trying to do this from simple stats. About all you can infer is they are a solid player?
c) Later Garth you said assume villain calls 13-16%, well the answer will be different depending on 13/14/15/16 % calling frequencies, no?
Also thought I would mention again another equity calculator called 'Slice EV++' found
here. I 1st mentioned it in another thread (regarding Omaha IIRC) - and I would recommend all to give it a look. It has some great features Pokerstove lacks, and supports more poker variants. Personally I use it more than Pokerstove now, even though there are some limitations in the free version (like only 2 players and 100,000 iterations fixed).
