The only way that would happen was if the previous competition became defunct, and disbanded, and a new competition was started.
And that's not what happened... it was just a cosmetic change, to reflect the more national stance the competition was taking.
WE (we being Adelaide, Port, Fremantle, West Coast, Brisbane) joined THEIR competition. It's evolved, and changed over time, but it still has it's relevant and acknowledged history.
If the SANFL had a team join, and then another team join... say from Darwin, and from Alice Springs, and then one from Tasmania.. and then renamed to the CFL or whatever - there's no way in the world you would "reset" the premierships here at all.
And despite all that, what is resetting? So, they say it's reset. Does that mean Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton can't say out loud "we have 15/16 flags"? It's silly
