This is what is classified as collusion or soft playing, more soft playing than collusion.

But what you have described is a huge NO NO!!

From what I can gather, you've intentionally exposed your hand when there is still action to follow. That would be a muck IMO.

There was no collusion at all, especially with them to play like that. It was purely ME that made that decision.

To answer your question "If you did not know that person would you have acted differently?" I would have to say no, I wouldn't have. I would have done exactly the same thing.

However, saying all of this, I now know I can't do that and will not do it! I thought it was just a matter of bad manners, not a breach of the rules.

My partner and her sister often take lots of chips from each other. They do get over it!

Best to skip the soft play - I suspect the worst you could get away with is to check it down. If they bet, that is SO their lookout and who knows, maybe you were holding 3h4h, flop comes 5h6h7h, ouch if they are holding 8h, 9h!

If JJ didn't know the players, would it be 'soft-playing' or 'slow-playing'? Is there a difference?

The issue I saw in it was the showing to stop the betting. That was the no-no.... but slow playing the str8 flush draws way more chips..

If that was me Caroline, I'd have gone all-in on the flop, so my mates knew I had something really decent. I know if my mate bets hard, he'd hit hard... so I fold.
